Chronic stress and burnout are highly prevalent mental health challenges in today's modern society, especially for caregivers and professionals in fields related to healthcare and education. Addressing these conditions is a vital part of avoiding problematic subsequent symptoms such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, and more.
Join HariKirin Khalsa, MD, volunteer faculty tor UMass Chan Medical School, and Sat Bir S. Khalsa, PhD, associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, for a program that will explore the science, research, and personal experience of how yoga can transform these challenges.
Through lectures, yoga and meditation practices, and group process, you will:
- Understand the physiology and psychology of stress, chronic stress, stress management, burnout, and resilience
- Learn how these serve as risk factors for the development of significant subsequent symptoms—including anxiety, depression, insomnia, and others.
- Gain knowledge of the scientific and clinical rationale for yoga and meditation practices to effectively address the underlying causes of these conditions.
- Acquire an overview of the clinical trial research evidence of mind-body practices and yoga for these conditions.
- Experience practices specifically intended to transform stress and burnout, improve stress tolerance and resilience, avoid subsequent symptoms and conditions, and replenish and uplift you.
This program is suitable for all, especially for caregivers and professionals in fields related to health care and education.
NOTE More than 70% of this program is experiential. It is suitable for those experiencing these conditions as well as for providers and caregivers who wish to apply these practices for their clients and patients. No prior yoga or meditation experience is needed. Those who are more comfortable practicing yoga in a chair are welcome. Please bring a notebook or journal and dress comfortably.
