Presenter

Pooja Prema is a first-generation Indian-American performing artist, facilitator, writer, and cultural activist based in New England. Throughout her 18-year career, Pooja’s work has centered on visionary ecofeminism, decolonial somatic ritual practice, and bridging the worlds of East and West through the written, sung, and spoken word. Originally from Kerala, India, her work is drawn as much from her cultural roots as from her lack of geographical rooting— weaving together the spiritual, personal, and political in service to honoring the legacy of her ancestors. Whether through ritual, dance, theater, or writing, her offerings are dedicated to reorienting consciousness toward a more sacred relationship with the Feminine, the Earth, and our shared humanity. She is the founder and director of The Ritual Theatre—an experimental site-specific theater company creating original work since 2012—and The Rites of Passage Project, a collaborative multimedia project based on the creation of large-scale “living museums” reclaiming initiations in women’s lives.
