Presenter

Shanina Carmichael, RYT-500, is an author and accomplished arts and wellness integration specialist with more than 15 years of expertise as a dance instructor and trainer. While her journey began with a profound love for dance, Shanina has transcended conventional instruction—harnessing movement as a potent healing modality. Her exploration of West African dance, both historically and in contemporary contexts, has illuminated its profound capacity to nurture physical and mental well-being while fostering community bonds. Drawing inspiration from master dancers and drummers, Shanina has imparted her wisdom to numerous schools across Mississippi and Missouri.

As a longstanding member of the Mississippi Arts Commission Teaching Artist roster for more than seven years, Shanina's impact extends beyond the studio. Her artistry has graced esteemed institutions such as the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, Smith Robertson Museum, and the Mississippi Children’s Museum. Her holistic approach integrates breathwork, journaling, creative writing, and meditation practices into her movement workshops, enriching the experiences of her participants. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Shanina is a devoted mother to two remarkable Black boys. Grounded in her commitment to personal growth, she exemplifies a dedication to bettering both herself and the world around her.
