In the winter darkness, we crave light and warmth—flickering Hannukah candles, twinkling Christmas lights, a blazing solstice bonfire, or the coziness of our own fireplace. Light and heat are not only what we see and feel but also what we intrinsically are, for we are made of the very energy we seek outside ourselves. In this time of retreat, we will tap into the source of that energy and come to see it as the mystical basis for all the celebrations of the season.

Rev. Marie Roberts and Rabbi Sigal Brier, accomplished teachers of mysticism and spirituality in their respective traditions, will gently and artfully guide us on a journey in which light can be both studied and experienced. Taking nothing for granted, we will explore customs and traditions of the “light holidays,” placing them in a fresh context in order to experience them anew. Using discussion, meditation, movement, and music, we will learn to better understand and accept ourselves and each other and appreciate darkness and light as they interact to foster growth in our lives.
