In 1970 Krishna Das traveled to India, where he met his guru, Neem Karoli Baba (Maharaj-ji). Through Maharaj-ji, he was introduced to the practice of kirtan (devotional chanting), an ancient method of heart purification. Since that time, he has become a powerful force for integrating bhakti, the yoga of devotion, into contemporary Western society.
A student of Buddhism since 1971, Sharon is one of the most influential meditation teachers in the West. She has been leading retreats worldwide in vipassana meditation and loving-kindness and compassion (the Brahma Viharas) for more than 30 years. Author of Lovingkindness, Faith, and A Heart as Wide as the World, she is a cofounder of the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts, and the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies.
