David Gordon White

David Gordon White, PhD, a specialist in South Asian religions, is the J. F. Rowny Professor of Comparative Religions at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he has been teaching since 1996. He is the author of four books that trace the history of yoga from its origins to the present day: The Alchemical Body: Siddha Traditions in Medieval India; Kiss of the Yogini: “Tantric Sex” in its South Asian Contexts; Sinister Yogis; and The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali: A Biography. He is also the editor of Tantra in Practice and Yoga in Practice.
