Rev. Irene Monroe

Rev. Irene Monroe, an African American activist and lesbian ordained minister, does a weekly segment, “All Revved Up!” on WGBH (89.7 FM), a Boston member station of National Public Radio (NPR), and is a weekly commentator on NECN. A Huffington Post blogger and syndicated religion columnist, her columns appear in newspapers including the LBGTQ Baywindows, Cambridge Chronicle, and the Boston Globe, as well as in the UK, Ireland, and Canada. Rev. Irene graduated from Wellesley College and Union Theological Seminary at Columbia University, and served as a pastor at an African-American church in New Jersey before studying for her doctorate Harvard Divinity School as a Ford Fellow. She is currently a visiting scholar in the religion and conflict transformation program at Boston University School of Theology and is the Boston voice for Detour’s African American Heritage Trail.
