Arlene Schmid

Presenter

Dr. Arlene Schmid, PhD, OTR, RYT-200, has been an occupational therapist for more than 25 years and is a professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Colorado State University. For nearly 20 years, Arlene has completed funded research trials of yoga in different diagnostic populations—such as people with stroke, brain injury, and chronic pain. Her studies have demonstrated that yoga is not only feasible but highly beneficial to people with both acute and chronic injuries and disability. Most recently, Arlene and her colleagues have begun to add imaging techniques to better understand the impact of yoga on the brain, and they have merged yoga with occupational therapy or education to enhance results.
