Defiant Magic A Creativity Workshop

BE INSPIRED BY TWO ACCLAIMED WRITERS

Suleika Jaouad and Elizabeth Gilbert are known for using creativity as instruments of stubborn resilience against the tragedies and challenges of life.

Elizabeth famously wrote her way through divorce and depression with her celebrated memoirs Eat Pray Love and Big Magic, and has spoken openly about how making art, dancing, and writing became tools of recovery after the death of her partner, Rayya Elias.

Suleika has twice battled the pain and fear of leukemia by seeing her survival as "a creative act". Her memoir Between Two Kingdoms speaks to her powerful sense of artistic defiance. That same stubborn creativity was also showcased in the Oscar-nominated documentary American Symphony which tells the story of how Suleika and her husband, musician Jon Batiste, moved creatively and fiercely through her recent cancer relapse.

In this program, dear friends Elizabeth and Suleika will share their wisdom as you:

  • Learn about creativity as an act of survival and defiance.
  • Explore the writing and artistic exercises they have each developed over the years.
  • Push past fear and despair to make your life an act of defiant magic.

All are welcome to this one-of-a-kind event. You do not have to be a professional writer or visual artist to attend.

NOTE Please bring a notebook, some pens, and an open mind.
